What Does CCAE Membership Do For Me?
LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY
Because of the major cuts to adult education in 2009, It is imperative that adult educators promote legislation and regulations that benefit the adult education students. CCAE provides advocacy in the following ways:
Bay Section Legislation Meetings – CCAE Bay Section members meet with legislators in Bay Section regions to discuss impacts and seek solutions to adult education budget cuts. Annual Legislation Day - Members converge on Sacramento and meet with legislators and/or their top educational aides. Frost and Associates - A major educational advocacy firm represents the interests of CCAE and adult education with state lawmakers, the Governor’s office, and other units of state government. CCAE State Representatives - Board members from each of the six CCAE Sections and the State Legislative Chair meet regularly to initiate legislation, develop positions on bills, and monitor legislation. Legislative updates - Information is disseminated on a regular basis to sections, chapters and members, and writing campaigns supporting or opposing legislations are initiated. Legislator Visits - Legislators and their aides are guests at adult school sites to observe first hand the benefits of adult education to our communities and residents. Collaboration - We work closely with other adult education organizations to ensure that all of adult education presents a united legislative platform.
PROFESSIONAL GROWTH
Conferences: CCAE holds an annual State Conference during the spring of each year. Small group meetings and workshops provide professional growth opportunities. Inspirational and key messages from major speakers build enthusiasm and vision. Vendors are on hand to display books, materials and current technology. It is also a time to network with other adult educators to share knowledge and information. CCAE Bay Section holds the annual winter conference and awards with similar formats.
Workshops and Academies: CCAE is widely known for providing the excellent GED Academies that train and upgrade the skills of GED teachers. It is CCAE’s aim to be the primary provider of professional growth opportunities for adult educators in the state of California.
Leadership: Offices in CCAE chapters provide leadership training and experience for interested members, and many later assume leadership roles in sections and at the state level. Over 250 members accept the challenge each year and assume leadership positions at the chapter, section and state levels.
RECOGNITIONS
CCAE recognizes our members for outstanding professional accomplishment and contributions to adult education and to recognize individual achievement. Sections and chapters provide awards and recognitions to outstanding individuals in their area in chapter and section events. CCAE Bay Section has also been involved in providing scholarships to members and students.
